SPIN CYCLES AND SPIRITUAL AWAKENINGS

MINDSET MAKEOVER MONDAY – 7-29-24

DISCUSSION TOPIC – WHAT GIFTS ARE YOU DENYING BECAUSE OF FEAR?

There are many thought processes that will advance or hinder our belief systems (Faith).

Beginning in our childhood, our beliefs are formed about how we perceive ourselves and the world around us. Our experiences, relationships, events, family dynamics, and circumstances greatly influence our belief systems. Within our family units we rely on each other for emotional, physical, and economic support. Our family members are our primary source of relationship security or dysfunction. Therefore, our acceptance as truth the opinions, influence, and judgments of others, regardless of their validity, have significantly impacted our lives directly. Consequently, also during these times, our limiting beliefs are starting to form (we'll come back to this shortly).

Every decision starts with a belief. We base our decisions on what we know or believe to be true. At times, we believe and act on some things that are not true. Both influence our attitude, behavior, and actions. Once you accept as truth the identity of the person that you believe you are; your brain will be wired to keep you there – even if it wasn’t your desired goal.

STORY - SPIN CYCLES AND SPIRITUAL AWAKENINGS

Chyle lemme tell you a story from the spin cycle of life that shook me to my core and might just do the same for you.

One thing I've learned while championing others is that God has a funny yet strategic way of sending people across our paths, especially those who are in need of prayer and encouragement. And I, always quick to oblige, would hear from others: "You have the heart and spirit of a minister!" I'd laugh it off, denying it vehemently. Me? A minister? No way! The idea of that responsibility was terrifying. What if I didn't know what to pray? What if someone needed more than I could offer? The fear of failing them and God was overwhelming especially in the early years of my “Faith” journey.

Then came the “Spin Cycle at the Laundromat” experience. My husband and I, green as grass in our new laundromat business, relied heavily on advice from a seasoned couple who assured us, "Call anytime with questions." Day two of ownership, my list of questions was longer than a holiday shopping list, so I called them. The wife answered, usually upbeat this time sounded so downtrodden and sad that it startled me. When I asked if everything was okay, her response temporarily spun me into a shock: "I'm trying to figure out how to commit suicide and ensure my husband gets my insurance benefits."

What?! I was speechless, heart pounding and mind racing. All I could think was, “Karen, Don't fail her AND Don't fail God."  Despite my self-doubt, I knew that I couldn’t say, “well sorry to disturb you -I’ll only be a minute or carry on – my bad”! So, I found myself praying fervently, inviting God's healing power to comfort, strengthen and keep her during this difficult time. As she cried, I felt it deep in my soul and knew that it was wasn’t a cry of “despair” but instead one of “surrender”! It was then that I KNEW that God had shown up, right on time. She committed her life over to God, and dedicated her business to Him, inviting others to know Him too, which she revealed to me on a later call.

Through this, God revealed that when I submit myself and the gifts that He has given me to Him, I become exactly who He says I am—a minister of His word and a prayer warrior of Faith. So, my dear champions, it's time to check your self-talk. What gifts are you denying because of fear? Embrace them, submit them to God, and watch how He shows up right on time. Someone’s life could depend on it!
